The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) is now accepting applications for grant funds to replace or improve heavy-duty off-road diesel equipment, eligible under the federal Diesel Emission Reduction Act (DERA).
Applications are due no later than 4:30 pm Central Time on Wednesday, December 20, 2023.
The approximately $1.4 million in grant funds can be used for cleaner diesel, alternative fuels, and hybrid or all-electric equipment, helping reduce emissions from older diesel-powered equipment to improve air quality and public health. The maximum grant funding per project is $500,000. Grantees will be required to provide a cash match for a percentage of the equipment cost, and the old diesel engine, vehicle, or equipment must be destroyed. The money comes from Minnesota’s share of the national Volkswagen (VW) settlement and federal DERA program.
Complete RFP information, such as eligible vehicles and equipment, can be found on the MPCA grant web page. The MPCA will be hosting an online-only informational webinar for this RFP on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at 2:00 pm Central Time. Grant awardees will need to be registered in SWIFT, so please review all information carefully and sign up early!
Applicants may email questions regarding this RFP to firstname.lastname@example.org, subject line: “FFY 23 DERA Grant Question”, no later than 4:00 pm Central Time on Friday, December 15, 2023. Answers to questions will be posted frequently in the SWIFT Supplier Portal.
On June 14, 2022, our team hosted an event with the MPCA to share experiences on deploying electric medium and heavy-duty trucks and to discuss a previous but similar DERA funding opportunity. You can view the event recording below.
