The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) recently announced a new funding opportunity as part of the state’s share of national Volkswagen Settlement money. Approximately $2 million is available to replace older diesel vehicles, transit buses, and equipment with new less-polluting equipment powered by diesel, diesel hybrid electric, natural gas, or propane. New trucks and bus engines meet much cleaner emissions of nitrogen oxides and fine particle pollution than older diesels, and also offer better fuel economy and reduced maintenance compared to older vehicles. The maximum award per vehicle replacement is up to 25% of eligible project costs.
Application deadline is April 28, 2023, at 4:30 pm Central Time.
Eligible vehicles
- Class 4-8 shuttle buses and transit buses
- Class 4-8 trucks (14,001 pounds or greater)
Eligible applicants

- Must own and operate vehicles and/or equipment within the eligibility section of the RFP
