The North Dakota Department of Commerce has announced the opening of the Rural Catalyst Grant Program, offering funding to support rural quality-of-life and economic development projects across the state. This reimbursable grant is designed to help rural communities strengthen essential services, encourage collaboration, and support innovative approaches to local challenges. Eligible projects may include improvements in areas such as community development, health and wellness, education, housing, transportation, and efforts to preserve or reopen rural grocery stores.

Eligible Applicants Include

  • Political subdivisions
  • Tribal entities
  • Regional councils

Available Funding
Up to $500,000 per rural applicant (Rural is defined as a community or region with a population of 4,500 or fewer, with at least 50% of total program funds directed to communities of 1,500 or fewer residents).

Matching Requirements
A one-for-one non-state-funded match is required. Matches may include public, private, nonprofit, or in-kind contributions. As a reimbursable program, no costs prior to the grant award and signed agreement will be eligible for reimbursement.
