Funding is available to support project planning and development for community-supported efforts to address a broad range of environmental justice issues, including air quality, environmental health, green infrastructure, job training, and more.

This funding opportunity is available for projects in Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Wisconsin, and 36 federally recognized Native Nations in US EPA region 5. (In another region? Check out this site for announcements with other EPA regions.)

There are three tiers available to apply for:

  • Tier 1 – assessment projects, funded up to $150,000 for one year
  • Tier 2 – planning projects, funded up to $250,000 for 1-2 years
  • Tier 3 – project development initiatives, funded up to $350,000 for a two-year project

Grant applications will be accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis at this time, with the expectation of continuing to accept applications through November 2026. Learn more about the funding guidelines and how to apply on their grantmaking portal.
