Minnesota is preparing for a surge in electric vehicle (EV) adoption with the release of two new resources: the EV Infrastructure Needs Assessment (EVINA) and the Long-Distance Charging Analysis Dashboard. Developed by the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT), these tools are now available on the EV Planning webpage and are part of a broader effort to build out a reliable, accessible statewide EV charging network.

The EVINA report, completed in July 2025, offers projections for EV growth, identifies future charging needs, and outlines strategies to ensure equitable access across Minnesota. It includes recommendations tailored to rural communities, underserved populations, and high-traffic corridors, supporting the state’s implementation of the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program.

Alongside the report, MnDOT’s new interactive dashboard helps users visualize where chargers exist, where gaps remain, and where long-distance travel routes would benefit from additional infrastructure. It includes up-to-date data on EV ownership, public charging access, and usage trends.

To support public understanding of these tools, MnDOT will host a webinar on August 11 at 1 PM. Register here to join the session and learn how the report and dashboard can inform planning and funding efforts.

Electric vehicles offer significant benefits—including reduced emissions, lower fueling costs, and quieter, low-maintenance performance. With EV demand continuing to rise, these tools are a step forward in ensuring Minnesota is ready to meet that demand statewide.
