“The collaboration between NAFA and NTEA will result in an unmatched educational program for anyone involved in the work truck industry,” says Bill Schankel, CEO of NAFA. “Combining our fleet knowledge and experience with NTEA’s deep connections to the manufacturer and upfitter segments of the industry will enable us to create sessions that deliver cutting-edge technical information, real-world applications and actionable steps for fleet managers, upfitters, truck dealers and other commercial vehicle industry professionals.”

This collaboration was highlighted during the annual NTEA Work Truck Week and Green Truck Summit, which brought together fleet managers, manufacturers, and equipment providers in Indianapolis to explore emerging technologies shaping the commercial vehicle industry. Hosted by NTEA – The Work Truck Association, the Summit featured sessions on artificial intelligence, connected vehicles, telematics, and advanced driver assistance systems designed to improve fleet safety, efficiency, and productivity.

During the event, NTEA and NAFA announced that beginning in 2027 the Green Truck Summit will be renamed the Future Truck Summit, reflecting the event’s expanded focus beyond alternative fuels to include vehicle hardware, software, sensors, lightweight materials, and other technologies shaping the next generation of work trucks. The updated summit will continue to kick off Work Truck Week with keynote presentations and technical breakout sessions exploring fuels, automation, vehicle data, and other innovations expected to influence fleet operations over the next several years.

The expanded collaboration between NTEA and NAFA aims to deliver more educational sessions, technical content, and practical guidance for fleet managers, manufacturers, and upfitters navigating rapid changes in commercial vehicle technology and regulations.

In addition to participating in the Green Truck Summit and attending Work Truck Week, Lung Association staff hosted a breakout session titled Biobased Solutions for Operational Excellence in partnership with Clean Fuels Alliance America, Greater Indiana Clean Cities, and the B20 Club of Indiana. The invite-only lunch-and-learn drew more than 30 attendees for a discussion on how biodiesel, renewable diesel, and other biobased fleet and facility products can help organizations reduce emissions, support agriculture, and maintain strong operational performance.

Staff also attended the session State of Emissions Regulations and the Impact on Multi-Stage Vehicles, which examined evolving NOx standards, regulatory timelines, and the growing acceptance of higher biodiesel blends such as B30 and B100 in modern diesel engines.

Throughout the week, Lung Association staff and partners engaged with fleets, partners, and industry leaders at the Greater Indiana booth. While there, staff shared information about alternative fuels and highlighted several programs managed by the Lung Association, including Biobased Academy and the B20 Club of Indiana, while discussing opportunities to expand the use of clean fuels and technologies across the region.
