U.S. EV market expands with 101 models, delivering more consumer choices and lowering carbon emissions
Saint Paul, Minn., January 15, 2025 – The electric vehicle (EV) market in the United States has reached an exciting milestone: over 100 EV models are now available for consumers, according to the latest EVInfoList.com report from Shift2Electric. This new benchmark demonstrates the rapid growth and innovation in the EV industry, addressing long-standing barriers to adoption and expanding consumer choice.
The latest EVInfoList.com sheet reveals 101 EV models available in the U.S., representing an 18% growth in just the past year. This includes the latest additions such as the Audi Q6 e-tron, Cadillac Escalade IQ, Dodge Charger EV, and Volkswagen Buzz. This increased diversity in models allows more Americans to find EVs that suit their unique needs, from towing and winter driving to family road trips.
“Reaching over 100 models is a testament to how far the EV industry has come,” said Jukka Kukkonen, chief EV educator and strategist at Shift2Electric. “Manufacturers are innovating at an incredible pace, delivering better range, new features, and vehicles for every lifestyle. This milestone shows that EVs aren’t just the future of transportation — they’re here and thriving today. With more options than ever and increasing affordability in both new and used markets, now is the perfect time to test-drive an EV and find which one best fits your needs.”
Electric vehicle technology has also seen major advancements. The median range of EVs reached a record 283 miles per charge for 2024 models — more than triple the 90-mile median range of 2015 EVs. Additionally, 92% of current models offer all-wheel drive, enhancing performance on rural and wintery roads. Towing capacity has improved dramatically as well, with 44 EV models now capable of towing between 1,500 and over 10,000 pounds.
“Transportation is the largest source of climate pollution in the United States, and passenger vehicles make up over half of that pollution,” said Anjali Bains, managing director of transportation at Fresh Energy. “Expanding EV options is crucial to reducing emissions and meeting our climate goals. More options also empower consumers while helping us improve air quality and create a healthier future for all.”
“When we first started working on electric vehicles 15 years ago, there were only a handful of choices that often created a need for some compromises,” said Lisa Thurstin, director of Minnesota Clean Cities Coalition. “With 100 models now available, we are typically able to work with drivers and businesses to identify several options that often exceed their needs and expectations.”
Other exciting developments in the EV market include the growing availability of three-row SUVs and minivans, with 10 models now available to accommodate larger families. Additionally, 26 EV models now offer Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G), Vehicle-to-Home (V2H), or Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) features, enabling users to power tools, campsites, or even their homes during electricity outages.
Since its inception nearly a decade ago, EVInfoList.com has grown from a single-page document to an 8-page resource featuring 101 models and over 1,800 data points, including range, towing capacity, and acceleration.
