The Department of Energy (DOE) recently announced $15 million in new funding for projects to advance the deployment of technologies critical to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions in the transportation sector.

The funding will drive innovation in equitable clean transportation and is aligned with strategies detailed in the U.S. National Blueprint for Transportation Decarbonization. The Vehicle Technologies Office (VTO) within DOE’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) administers the funding. EERE envisions awarding multiple projects in the form of cooperative agreements. The estimated performance period for each award will be approximately 24-36 months.

Topic areas in VTO’s Fiscal Year (FY) 2024 Technology Integration funding opportunity include:

  • Clean Cities Outreach, Engagement, and Technical Assistance: This topic area is specifically for Clean Cities coalitions with the goal of funding projects that strengthen their ability to achieve the Clean Cities vision of a decarbonized transportation future for all communities.
  • Training on Zero Emission Vehicle and Infrastructure Technologies for Critical Emergency Response Workers: This topic targets the development of local, regional, or national outreach, awareness, and partnership-building efforts for the training and education of firefighters, first responders, and other emergency response professionals to address situations involving zero-emission vehicles and infrastructure technologies.
  • Clean Transportation Demonstration and Deployment: This topic aims to explore novel solutions to transportation and related clean energy challenges through small-scale demonstration and deployment projects. In general, this topic may encompass projects not otherwise addressed in this funding opportunity announcement.

Only applicants who submitted an eligible concept paper can submit a full application. The due date for full applications is Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at 4:00 pm Central Time.
